The Within – Short Film Trailer

On occasion, I like to get out from behind the camera and dabble in acting.  In need of someone to fill a small role his sci-fi short film, The Within, I happily jumped at the chance to aid my colleague Marc Gardner.  Marc has been in several of my projects and is a great dude, always willing to help out a fellow filmmaker in need.  The part was for a police officer named Officer Jones.  It was a blast!  Check me out at the 0.52 second mark.  And be sure to keep your eyes peeled for The Within as Marc and his Ring22 Entertainment develops the story line into an ongoing web series!

Al Hendrix – 3 Song Highlight Video

Al Hendrix is a cool dude. One of the originals during the age of Rockabilly, Al needed some new media to get the word out that he’s back. He approached me and my company one studios and, after some talking and a bunch of laughing (Al’s a funny guy), it was agreed that I would organize and execute a multi-cam shoot for one of Al’s upcoming performances.  (more info below video)

We shot the intimate concert in Nevada City, CA at Stone House bar and restaurant. Al and his band rocked the house….pun intended. And we enjoyed every minute of his music, as well as his neverending stories. He met Elvis!

The shoot consisted of three cameras, a Canon 5D Mark III, a 7D and a 6D. The lenses were a mixture of Carl Zeiss and Canon….shout out to one studios colleague and co-founder of Plaid Zebra films, Joel Dockendorf, for aiding in supplying further equipment and serving as a camera op!  In addition to shooting, I also recorded audio via mics and a direct line from Al’s band’s board. I then took all the footage and audio and edited, colored and mixed in Premiere, creating the motion graphics for the intro and outro in After Effects.

Although we shot the entire concert, the three songs highlighted in this video are Al’s three favorites that he is best known for, aside from his old hit ‘Monkey Bite’. The three songs showcased in this vid are ‘Young and Wild’, ‘My Perfect Love’ and ‘Laraine’…..who he’s still happily married to.

I can’t say enough how good of a guy Al is.  I’ve literally spent hours on the phone with him just talking about life.  I’m honored to have him now as a friend and as part of the one studios Family!

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire – Thoughts on an Interesting Article Regarding White Viewers’ Racial Imagination

The following thoughts are in response to the Huffington Post article directly below, which was posted by a friend of mine on Facebook.  Thanks Dan.  It made me think.  And I couldn’t help but to write a few words [um, yeah, a few…. 🙂 ] in response to it.  This is stuff I actually find myself observing and thinking about often.  So, this was a perfect opportunity to finally get a few thoughts out.  Read the Huffington Post article first, then my thoughts, and let me know what you think.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/olivia-cole/catching-fire-beetee-race_b_4334585.html?utm_hp_ref=fb&src=sp&comm_ref=false#sb=3619638b=facebook

Interesting how much white guilt some peeps have.  Articles like this, although they do strike valid points, mass group peoples too much.  Not every white person thinks like this.  Just as not every black person, or brown person or whatever person thinks a certain way, etc., etc., etc.  However, the author does bring up a certain topic that is truly affecting a lot of the white population nowadays, and that’s the white guilt I mentioned above.  There is a lot of that embedded into the minds of the X and Y generations’ white populace.

White guilt tends to cause the “trying too hard” factor, which I find is when whites go out of their way to be overly nice or overly polite or overly sensitive when around people of a darker skin color than theirs.  It can be funny at times, especially because the peeps that are having it happen to them can obviously tell what is going on.  And it’s not to say that it isn’t a good thing that many whites are more conscious of racism and prejudice.  Of course, that’s great.  However comical it can be at times, who’s to say it’s not needed.  It often takes extremes to embed to be natural.

Nevertheless, this white guilt thing still doesn’t negate the prejudice and racism that is still quite embedded into our society, and around the world, for that matter.  The same white dudes that try to act all cool around black dudes tend to be the same white dudes who, when not around black dudes, use the “N” word and say racist ass remarks.  “Closet racism” when around only other members of one’s race seems to be very prevalent.  I know this first hand, as many of my friends throughout my life have been this way…despite my lack of approval and often vocal fights against it.

But there is no white guilt around when this type of behavior occurs in these more private atmospheres.  It’s so ridiculous and such bigotry.  And this isn’t to say this just exists in white society.  I’m fully confident in saying that it exists in all cultures, races and societies.  Until we rid ourselves from racism and prejudice in all aspects of our lives, no matter in public settings or in private social settings, these dark nuisances will continue to exist.

How can we act one way at home or around certain friends and then act another around other groups and say we aren’t prejudice or racist?  It’s a double standard we have to move past.  …..Easier said than done.  But here’s to moving forward.

L.O.S. – The Dream (Part 1)

I have been tinkering with webisodes for a while now.  The first one I ever did was a six parter following a couple of dudes with dreams of making it big.  This is part 1 of that webisode series, entitled L.O.S.: The Dream.  I’ll be putting the rest of the webisodes from this mini-series up after their unveiling on the upcoming, brand spanking new one studios site, which will have first dibs.  So, keep your eyes peeled.  If they’re one here, then the new one studios site is up and running, and you should probably check that out too…..just sayin’.

This is a pretty simple video, but fun.  Sometimes, it’s all about having fun.  My peeps involved in the video with me came to me and we quickly threw this together.  I did all production.  And I plan on doing more webisodes in the future using higher quality equipment and putting more time into them overall.  They’ll most definitely be shot in high def, unlike this series.  All in all, good stuff.  Enjoy!

Balloon Presents Michael Fey of McAfee on Info Security – Video Audio

I was contracted by NE Entertainment, in conjunction with creable Films, both out of L.A., to record and mix audio for the shoot for this video by the company Balloon.  Balloon was interviewing Mike Fey, CTO of McAfee.  I utilized a wireless lav mic setup that fed into an external recorder.  A shotgun mic was also fed directly into the RED Scarlet camera being used to shoot the footage as a backup.  The shoot was held at Intel Studios in Santa Clara, CA.  It was a fun gig with good people!

Thanks for listening.

Essence of Eternity – Feature Film Audio

The following trailer is for an upcoming feature called Essence of Eternity, by Director Richard Ryan and his production company Ox Films.  This feature is filming in multiple locations.  But for the majority of shoots Ox Films had in Sacramento, El Dorado Hills, Cameron Park and Lake Tahoe, CA, I was contracted as the Sound Recordist/Mixer.  I’ll be posting more audio I captured in my my upcoming Film Audio Reel, as well as including future clips with the audio as Ox Films releases them.

For now, enjoy the following teaser, which has just a small piece of the audio I recorded at the end of the clip.  It’s the part where the lead actor says, “Where’s my wife?!”  Believe me, I should be able to post some clips with way more of my audio from this film in the near future….hopefully when it’s been properly mastered.  But at least you get to hear it in its raw form!

I recorded and mixed the audio using wireless lav units, as well as a boom mic.  I had feeds going into a 16 bit recorder, a 24 bit recorder and the RED Scarlet camera that the scene was shot with.  Always get backups!  😉

***UPDATE!!!  Below the first clip described is a new trailer Ox Films recently released that has some more of my audio for the film.  In this clip you can hear audio I recorded and mixed at the following time markers……0:28 – 0:31 (Bathroom Fight & Boat), 1:04 – 1:07  (no audio but I did record for that scene), 1:35 – 1:37 (guys running), 1:42 – 1:48 (sitting in chairs), 1:56 – 2:00 (bathroom fight).  A lot of this was done with multi mic / multi recorder setups, including wireless lavs, boundary mics, shotgun mics, a Tascam HD-P2, a Zoom H6 and more.  I’ll be posting more of my audio bits from this film as they are released with video clips like this.  But, again, I’ll also be post stuff in my personal audio reel(s) as well.

Thanks for listening!

Therapydia – Flagship Clinic Program Video Audio

Therapydia is an exciting new company helping people be at their best physically.  The following video was done by Steel-Edge, a production company based in Los Angeles and San Francisco, CA.  I was contracted by Steel-Edge to record and mix the audio for the San Francisco based shoot for this video.  So, as you watch the video, listen up!  But note that I did not shoot or edit this clip.  That’s all Steel-Edge.  Me = Audio.  I used wireless lapel and boom mic systems to capture the audio to both the camera and my external recorder.  Some of the raw audio from this shoot will be included in my upcoming audio reel as well…if you’re interested.

Thanks for listening!
